Alwyn, thanks for your comment. Let me clarify that the feast wasn’t declared in 1950 – the dogma was! This is explained later in the text. Anyway, I’ve slightly edited the first paragraph to make that point clear at the very start of the post.

Oscar this is news to most of us as you explained how the feast of the Assumption was declared only in 1950, more than 3 years after India’s Independence.

Well, whatever happened on 15th Aug 1947 was the Will of God. Though Mother Mary is dear to all Catholics and they invoke her blessings it is clear that the coincidence is just by chance.
